Brain and Beer July, 2007

"A beer taste's the same here as it does anywhere else", This was the basis of an argument I recently had with a buddy of mine. See, we were at this Irish pub in Mesa called R.T. O'Sullivans. Personally, I think the drinks suck, and the food is subpar, but the atmosphere makes up for the restaurants shortcomings. Anyway, he ordered a Guinness, and I, a Bud. It was $2 domestic night (what can I say, I'm cheap). So as we're drinking down our pints, I look at him and say, "You only ordered Guiness 'cuz we're at an Irish bar." And then the argument ensued, "a beer taste's the same here as it does anywhere else in the Valley..."

I DON'T THINK SO

A recent trip to Dos Gringos furthered my suspicion for the choice of brewskis we order depending on our surroundings. I walk into Dos Gringos in Gilbert, and right of the bat I say to the waitress, "Corona, please." It struck me, I only ordered a Corona because I'm at a Mexican restaurant! I don't even think I wanted a Corona - my mind picked it for me! Our brains work in mysterious ways, but one thing I figured out it that your cravings depend on your environment. My buddy ordered the Guiness not because he was craving it, but because of where we were. More on this revelation later...
