Fate Restaurant - review by Christopher Gross
Fate is a great restaurant located near 4th Street and Roosevelt in downtown Phoenix. It’s a really nice looking old home that’s been remodeled into a Chinese restaurant. Here, Chef Johnny Chu does a fantastic production of Chinese cooking. His menu features a large variety of selections, so whether you are vegetarian or a beef lover, Fate has it all. Besides Fate offering extraordinary food, they also showcase local music artists, and I have to say the music is really good. Fate’s vast beer list, featuring a dozen or so nicely selected varieties, wonderfully complements their food. We dined on the Pork Pot Stickers, which were so terrific we ordered seconds. My guest ordered Fried Tofu Wedges Vegetarian, something I never would have choosen because I’m not crazy about the sound of them. Ironically, I think I ate more of them than she did! For our entrees we enjoyed Spicy Saigon, and if you’re like me and you like your food a little extra hot and spicy ask for a side of chili paste.
Fate is very casual, so you don’t have to worry about getting dressed up. It’s fun, the service is great, and I had a super time. The music is great! The ambiance is great! It’s open for lunch and dinner. You really got to try and do it. Chu has tons of awards and accolades from national as well as local press. Menu prices are very reasonable. Fate is open seven days a week: Monday through Thursday for dinner 5pm to 11pm, Friday and Saturday 5pm to 3am, and lunch Monday through Friday 11am to 2pm. Where else can you go in Phoenix and have dinner until 3am on a Friday or Saturday night? What a great place to go!
