Asia De Cuba - review by Christopher Gross
I recently had dinner at Asia de Cuba restaurant in Old Town Scottsdale. It is located inside the Mondrian Hotel at 7353 East Indian School Road, 480.308.1131. The Mondrian was recently quoted in Travel and Leisure Magazine as one of ‘America’s sexiest resorts’. Asia de Cuba is also located in New York and Los Angeles.
It’s a beautifully decorated restaurant, with an all white interior, which makes for a very sharp look. I was really impressed with their very professional wait staff. The menu is a mixture of Cuban, Asian, with a little of French food thrown in. My guest and I had dinner out on the patio, which is a gorgeous setting at night because it overlooks Civic Center Park. When you are choosing the meals on the menu, you have to keep in mind that the portions are very big. You may want to choose a couple of appetizers or entrees and share it with your guest, because it’s as if you are treated to two extra courses! For an appetizer, my guest and I chose the “Calamari Salad Asia de Cuba”, which was fantastic. We also had “Duck Confit Salad”. The duck legs were slow cooked; it was like duck pot stickers with hoisin sauce. The meat melted off the bone, as we managed to go through the salad quickly. For our entrées we chose “Roasted Butterfish” that was super fresh, very tasty, and seasoned to perfection. Everything on the menu is great because there is so much versatility and so many different flavors in the food. They have a wonderful wine list with some unusual varieties that match their dishes perfectly!
For dessert we had “Panna cotta”, which was very smooth and flavorful. I highly recommend Asia De Cuba. It’s moderately priced to expensive, and I think you would really enjoy this place. They are open for dinner Sunday through Thursday 5:30pm to 11pm, Fridays and Saturdays 5:30pm to 12:00pm, and lunch Sunday through Thursday 11:30am to 5:30pm. I recommend you making a reservation if you go Friday or Saturday night! Red Bar

The Red Bar is exactly as it says; the ceilings and furniture are red and there are little cupids painted on the ceiling. The bar is a really hip and cool place to have a drink or hang out before you dine. Sky Bar

This bar is also located in the Mondrian. The interior is all black. Outside, the bar has little cabanas that provide a very private, secluded atmosphere. You can relax, have a drink, or just hang out.
